Disconnect wiring for speedometer (green arrow) and remove harness from
securing clip (blue arrow).
Support differential, remove the two 6mm Allen bolts (green arrows) on
each side of the rear sub-frame and loosen the two 22mm nuts (red arrow) on rear
sub-frame. Do not remove the nuts, or sub-frame can drop out of car.
Remove 19mm nut and bolt from rear differential mount.
Lower differential until bushing is clear of body bracket.
Install BMW special tool 33 2 120 and press out
bushing. Bushing is eccentric, ensure correct installation of tool.
Lubricate new bushing with soap and water and install using
same special tool. Ensure that bushing is installed in correct orientation.
Disconnect wiring for speedometer (green arrow) and remove harness from
securing clip (blue arrow).
Drain oil from differential
Support differential and remove 19mm nut and bolt from mount.
Lower differential until mount is clear of body bracket
Remove 17mm bolts securing rear cover to differential and
remove cover.
If a press is available, press out old bushing and press in
new.
If no press is available, use a hacksaw or equivalent to cut
rubber center from mount, then make two cuts in outer edge of mount.
Use a hammer and
chisel to knock remnants of old mount from differential cover.
Lubricate the new mount with soap and water, use a piece of
wood to protect the mount and knock it into the differential cover with a hammer.
Take care to keep the mount even, and in the correct orientation.
