Pinion seal, replace.

Remove differential or driveshaft.
Clean front of differential to prevent contamination of bearings.
Use a chisel to crimp locking washer on pinion nut. Pull locking washer off nut.
Use a chisel to stake the nut and end of the pinion shaft to mark position of nut. 330031.jpg (60340 bytes)
Remove nut.
Slide off pinion flange.  Inspect flange for damage.
Pry out seal, take care to not damage the housing. 330032.jpg (64294 bytes)
Clean old oil from housing, inspect housing for damage on seal surface, correct if necessary. 330033.jpg (60655 bytes)
Apply a small amount of RTV sealer to the outer edge of the new seal. 330034.jpg (42892 bytes)
Install new seal in housing until it is flush with housing lip. 330035.jpg (69678 bytes)

NOTE: If pinion flange has a groove from running against the old seal, counter sink new seal to prevent seal running in the existing groove.

Lightly lubricate surface of flange with oil.
Install flange, use Loctite™ 262 on pinion nut and tighten only until chisel marks are aligned.

WARNING: Over tightening of pinion nut will result in failure of pinion bearing.
