Note: This procedure will result in loss
of radio code. Make sure you have your radio code ready once job is completed.
If you do not have your radio code, take note of the serial number on the side or
rear of the radio and ask your BMW retailer to supply you with the correct code.

| Disconnect negative cable from battery. |
 |
| Remove radio, requires BMW special tool available at any BMW retailer. |
 |
| Use flat edge of tool to open doors on radio. |
 |
| Use the pentagonal end of the tool to unscrew the radio. Pull radio out
and disconnect or carefully lay to the left side of the dash. |
 |
| Open glove compartment and remove pins from support straps, allow glove
compartment to rest against floor. |
 |
Remove the two Phillips screws (upper green arrows) and two 1/4 turn clips
(lower green arrows). Remove upper cover.
Do not remove the two gold anodized Phillips screws (red arrows). These screws should not
be touched unless glove compartment latch adjustment is required. |
 |
| Disconnect wiring to glove compartment light. |
 |
| Pull main wiring harness away from plastic trim on left side of glove
compartment opening. |
 |
| Remove plastic cover from left side of glove compartment by removing left
most screw in glove compartment opening (blue arrow), and 1/4 turn clip (green arrow). (click
on image for larger view) |

| Remove clamp retaining cable to lever assembly and remove cable from
control lever. |
 |
| Remove clamp from lower end of cable, on right side of heater housing and
remove cable from lever by positioning cable at a 90 degree angle to the lever and
extracting the inner cable from the hole in the lever. |
 |

Installation:
|
|
| Lower end of cable sleeve must be completely against the stop on the
bracket before installation of the clamp. |
 |
| Connect upper end of cable to lever and move lever all the
way to the closed position before installing the retaining clamp. |
|
|
