Clutch release bearing, remove and install

Remove transmission

Remove spring retaining clutch fork on right side of bell housing, remove fork and bearing.

Occasionally a throw-out bearing will be supplied in a clutch kit without the sleeve. In this case, the old bearing must be pressed off the sleeve, and the new one pressed on.   Measure overall height of original unit before pressing off old bearing. Clean the sleeve thoroughly before pressing on the new bearing to prevent any dirt or particles entering the new bearing.

If the throw-out bearing sleeve is metal, you must pack the inside with molybdenum grease. If the sleeve is plastic, do not apply any grease of any kind, sleeve must be installed dry.

Lubricate the ball sockets on either end of the clutch fork and the center slot where the throw-out bearing contacts it, with molybdenum grease.

Compare the total height of the new throw-out bearing and sleeve with the original. Also check the distance between the bottom of the tabs on the sleeve, and the top of the bearing.
