Fuel pump, remove and install

These instructions are for the main pump, removal of pre-pump requires a different procedure. Post 88 cars do not have this pump installed, these cars only have one pump, follow the pre-pump instructions to remove this single pump.
Fuel pump is located just forward of the left rear wheel, above a stone shield.
Start car and remove fuel pump fuse or relay, wait until car stalls, then shut off ignition 610042.jpg (32354 bytes)
Disconnect negative lead from battery
Remove the plastic shield 130013.jpg (52481 bytes)
Remove fuel filter if located at rear of car.
Pull back caps on wiring connections at pump 130014.jpg (52068 bytes)
Remove nuts and remove wiring. 130015.jpg (53410 bytes)
Remove hose clamp and hose from intake side of the pump, remove the outlet side hose from the metal line in the car, rather than from the pump. Cars with filters mounted directly below pump have outlet hose going directly to pump, therefore, it is already free because the fuel filter has been removed.

CAUTION: There may still be residual pressure in fuel lines, use care when removing them, fuel spray can cause injury.

Remove the three 10mm nuts securing fuel pump bracket to body. 130016.jpg (48626 bytes)
Remove pump and bracket assembly.
Remove fuel pump from holder by loosening the 10mm bolt that doubles as a clamp for the bracket and for the outlet hose

Torques

Nuts for rubber mounts : 6 -7 Nm (4.5 - 5.0 ft lbs.)
Electrical connectors on pump, 4mm : 1.2 ± 0.4 Nm (0.9 ± 0.3 ft lbs.)
Electrical connectors on pump, 5mm : 1.6 ± 0.4 Nm (1.1 ± 0.3 ft lbs.)
Plastic nuts for trim : 2 Nm (1.4 ft lbs. )
Hose Clamps : 2 Nm (1.4 ft lbs. )
