Cruise control, installation on non equipped car.

These instructions assume you have purchased a factory cruise control kit. If you intend to retrieve a used unit from a used parts source,
read these instructions thoroughly to ensure you retrieve all the necessary components.

Remove negative cable from battery

Remove steering wheel

Remove left lower dash trim

Remove the 4 screws securing the  lower steering column cover and remove the cover. 320001.jpg (30139 bytes) 320002.jpg (33890 bytes)
Remove screw from bottom of wiper switch, and move ground lead aside. (white arrow)

Drill out hole for screw to 5.5mm (0.216").

Mount cruise selector switch  on right side of column, ensuring locating tabs are correctly seated  in their respective mounting holes. (Green arrows above )
Place ground lead over mounting hole and insert a 5 x 15mm screw.
Route harness from switch alongside wiper harness down column
Cut out marked opening in lower steering column cover and install the cover.
Remove brake light switch.
Mount clutch switch onto bracket and mount the bracket with a 6x12 bolt and lock washer.
Adjust clutch so that 4 to 5mm of button is visible with clutch pedal depressed.
Install brake light switch  and adjust so that 5 to 6mm of button is visible with pedal depressed.
Open glove compartment, remove pins from retaining straps and lower glove compartment to floor
Remove cover above glove compartment, and remove latch striker plate.  Clearance may be gained by removing connector for  DME. Arrow shows final position of cruise control unit. 650020.jpg (32850 bytes)
Mount cruise control unit holder to striker plate with self tapping screws. 650021.jpg (30277 bytes)
Slide control unit into holder, run wiring harness behind center console and plug into control unit.
Mount control unit and reassemble glove compartment.
Remove instrument cluster
Insert green plastic adapter plate in the rear of the cluster, if not already fitted.  650022.jpg (27695 bytes)
And connect speedometer connection from cruise wiring harness. Install cluster 620010.jpg (3488 bytes) 620009.jpg (3905 bytes)
Plug in black connector (green arrow) on cruise harness to clutch switch (blue arrow) 610003.jpg (58657 bytes)
Connect cruise harness ground wire to main ground point above pedals. 610002.jpg (65220 bytes)
Locate special equipment wiring plug, to the left of the pedals, a large white connector with multiple small connectors plugged into it.

Plug in the cruise harness 2 pin connector to the upper right corner of the special equipment connector. The connector will not fit in any other position.

Position cruise actuator bracket on left inner fender towards headlights and mark points for mounting holes. 325i has cruise actuator mounted to air filter housing mount. 650025.jpg (55973 bytes)
Drill holes and remove inner fender splash shield.  Mount cruise motor bracket with nuts and bolts to the inner fender and mount motor.
Connect cable to cruise motor and connect to throttle body. Throttle body has the mounting points already installed. Adjust cable with engine idling, cruise control off, to allow a slight amount of slack in the cable with throttle completely closed. 650027.jpg (59178 bytes)
325e: Attach cruise control cable clip to inboard stud of left strut. Route cable through the clip. 650026.jpg (69867 bytes)
Route wiring harness from the operating motor , along the existing harness, into the passenger compartment and connect to the appropriate connector on the cruise harness.

Harness should be routed through the large grommet below the brake booster.  Dismount fuse box from inner fender to facilitate installation of the harness.
